Northern Lights Startle Seattle

SEATTLE, (AP)—A spectacular display of aurora borealis was seen in the Pacific Northwest last night and early this morning.

The weather bureau received calls from many persons who described the light as brilliant shadings of purple, pink, red and white, sometimes rotating like searchlights and at other times shimmering like curtains in a breeze.

Weather reports from Ephrata and Ellensburg, and from The Dalles, Ore., also told of the aurora borealis.

Best Marknell of Des Moines said he had seen the aurora many times in Alaska and thought last night's display was almost as dazzling.

The aurora is supposed to be of electrical origin.
