Ohio Beauticians Name McGhee Counsel To Consider Plans to Regulate Prices and Closing Hours

CLEVELAND—Norman L. McGhee, prominent local attorney, was this week appointed legal counsel and legislative representative of the Ohio Association of Beauticians, according to announcement made this week by Mrs. Minnie L. Dixon, president of the association. This state wide organization was formed some four years ago to concern itself with the problems confronting colored beauticians following enactment of state laws providing for examinations, licensing, and other regulations of persons engaging in the practice of cosmetology and the operation of beauty parlors.

Action of the Association naming legal counsel and legislative agent has grown out of a desire on the part of colored beauticians throughout the state to secure representation on the State Board of Cosmetology, as well as to take steps to correct certain defects which they feel exist in the present law relating to the practice of cosmetology.

In recent months, membership in the association has been growing steadily due to the recognized need for its existence. Among the problems confronting colored operators throughout the state are the attempts to set up regulations regarding opening and closing hours and the standardization of prices. Efforts will soon be made by the association to attack these problems.

Annual meeting of the association has been set for November 7th at the Cedar YMCA, East 77th Street and Cedar Avenue, according to a call being sent out by Mrs. Anna T. Poole, the association's secretary, at which time election of officers will be held.
