ST. CLOUD. Minn.-The shallowest spot in Minnesota's granary this year seems to be here in the center of the state. As the traveler comes out of the Red river valley, where there is a good crop, shocks become thinner on the ground.
Reports from thrashing machines in this district for many miles around indicate that wheat yields generally over 18 or 20 central and northern counties outside Red river valley are running from 7 to 8 bushels in the poorest sections and from 12 to 15 bushels to the acre in the better districts farther south.
Corn is the most promising crop in central Minnesota. The prospects favor a fair yield of ears and a big yield of silage and fodder corn. Recent rains gave corn a new start, the leaves are practically all green, and the stalks are unusually tall for this northern section of the corn belt.
