CIO Protests Ending Of U.S. Promotion Of Savings Bonds

Cleveland (LPA)-The CIO protested to Treasury Secretary Humphrey the abolition of the department's Labor and payroll savings divisions, which have helped promote bond sales among workers.

The protest came from CIO members of the National Labor Advisory Committee for Savings Bonds, and was signed by CIO President Reuther, and President McDonald, Steelworkers; Potofsky, Clothing Workers; and Rieve, Textile Workers.

The protest said "Millions of patriotic workers, who are members of labor unions actively participated in the purchase of defense Bonds. This participation has been greatly assisted by the representatives of labor unions who have been working in the Treasury's labor and payroll savings department. We believe that the elimination of this labor representation will adversely affect the amount of bond sales.

"We urge you to reconsider your action, and to reestablish the labor and payroll savings departments, and thus restore labor participation in the bond-selling program."
