26 WPA PROJECTS GIVEN APPROVAL

PRESIDENTIAL OKAY COVERS WORK IN MANY COUNTIES TO COST NEARLY MILLION

$145,170 Allocated for Continuation of Surplus Commodity Distribution Centers in State and $4,866 for Land Utilization Study by State College.

Presidential approval of 26 projects totaling $927,273 during April was announced by state WPA administrator Joseph E. Parker. Included in the list were school improvements for summer months on rural schools throughout Big Horn, Madison and Sanders counties and for rehabilitation of the Carbon County high school at Red Lodge; sidewalk and curb construction at Lewistown and Scobey; construction of a public building at Broadus; improvement of the Custer county fairgrounds at Miles City; water and sewage systems at Dodson and Billings; countywide road work in Fergus and Sweet Grass counties; household aid in Richland and Fallon counties, and improvement of four fish hatcheries in Flathead and Lake counties.

Under statewide projects $145,170 was allocated to continuation of surplus commodity distribution centers in the state, and $4,866 was earmarked for a land utilization study by Montana State college in 20 counties, Mr. Parker said.

The list of local projects by counties follows:

Big Horn—School repair and improvement at Hardin, Crow agency, Sarpy, Spring Creek, Masachetah, St. Xavier and Wolf Creek schools, $7,426.

Carbon—Improve Carbon county high school building and grounds, Red Lodge, $5,538.

Custer—County fairgrounds and building improvements, Miles City, $7,900.

Daniels—Construct citywide sidewalks, curbs and gutters at Scobey, $10,943.

Fallon—Furnish household aid to needy families on a countywide scale, $596.

Fergus—Construct and reconstruct sidewalks and curbs, Lewistown, $7,980; countywide road improvement, $113,926.

Flathead and Lake—Improve fish hatcheries at Somers, Lake Mary Ronan, Ashley and Rogers lakes, $9,651.

Lincoln—Flood control at Eureka, $1,197.

Madison—Countywide school improvements, $43,732.

Phillips—Improve and extend city water supply system, Dodson, $7,204.

Powder River—Construct fire hall and county garage building at Broadus, $11,927.

Richland—Furnish household aid to needy families, countywide, $596.

Sanders—Countywide school improvements, $43,732.

Sweet Grass—Countywide roads, $43,872.

Yellowstone—Sanitary sewer systems extension at Billings, $6,280.
