for the County
Mrs. Thelma Marshall, 2301 Jefferson, well-known Gary school teacher, has been selected as agent for the board of children's guardians, and will fill the post soon to be vacated by Miss Thyra J. Edwards, 1981 Massachusetts, who is relinquishing the position to study.
Announcement of the appointment of Mrs. Marshall was made early today. The appointee is a sister of Miss Edwards, and will succeed her this month, resigning a job as teacher in Roosevelt school.
The proposed vacancy was filled as the result of an examination of the qualifications of several candidates. In the examination, Mrs. Marshall was said to have stood highest, with Miss Earlestine Campbell, 2441 Jefferson standing next highest. Miss Campbell is an Illinois university student.
Duties of the office, created several years ago by the board of children's guardians, a county-supported organization, include the care of orphan, homeless and delinquent girls.
Miss Edwards received the position by appointment but won nation-wide prominence as a result of her work and research studies in child welfare. She plans entering school to further her studies in social science, according to friends.
