Miss W. Gertrude Brown
Given Farewell Dinner

A farewell dinner given by the workers of all of the Settlement Houses of the City, was tendered Miss W. Gertrude Brown, Thursday evening, at Wells Memorial House. Miss Brown was given a diamond brooch, and a beautiful corsage, in memory of her many valuable contributions to community activities, during her thirteen years of service in the city.

Meanwhile petitions circulated by the Minnesota Negro Council, urging a reconsideration of Miss Brown's resignation are receiving an unusual number of names.

Miss Ruth Gage Thompson; president of the Phyllis Wheatley Board who left on a vacation immediately following the tendering of Miss Brown's resignation, is expected to return in time for the meeting of the Board.. scheduled next Wednesday. at which time it is expected that final action will be taken.

In any event it is understood that Miss Brown. will remain in her official capacity until after the Community Fund Drive, which closes November the fourth.

Miss Brown has proven herself indispensable to the drive in her district number 21, of which she is associate director.

All further official statements have been withheld by both Miss Brown and the board, until after the meeting of October 20

An all city banquet is being planned for Miss Brown, Nov. 5th, to be given by all groups and organizations in the city, to be held at the Minnesota Union, University Campus. It is planned that the dinner be held from 6 p. m. to 8 p. m., to be followed by an open house at Phyllis Wheatley. from 8 until 10.

The Auxiliary of Phyllis Wheatley requests, any organization not having been contacted to kindly get in touch with Phyllis Wheatley House, as they are anxious that all organizations participate.
