The following comes to us in the foreign news by the Pacific:
On the morning of the 10th a serious difficulty occurred on board the American ship Harkaway, at Liverpool. The ship was on the point of sailing for Charleston. Some altercation took place between Captain Breck and the steward. The steward ran forward, pursued by the chief mate, who struck him with a belaying-pin. One of the sailors then struck the mate with a capstan-bar, on which the Captain came from the cabin, with a pistol in each hand, and having vainly called to order, he fired twice. A seaman named Lorenzo Causen was shot through the head, and will probably not recover. Captain Breck and Thomas Devine, chief mate, were apprehended and tried before the police magistrate at Liverpool.
Our correspondent forwarded to us, by telegraph, on Monday evening, a brief account of the difficulty noticed above. It came in such "questionable shape" as to be entirely unintelligible. The Richmond operator telegraphed to Baltimore for an explanation, but all that could be learned was that Lorenzo Caused shot Capt. Breck, and the mate, Devine, was arrested." We therefore publish the foregoing in order that our readers may not be misled.
