One of our young bloods called on his dulcinea the other evening, and as he knocked at the door it so happened that his prospective father-in-law, who was the only individual about the house to respond, was in an adjoining room trying to carve out a steak from a joint of frozen hog meat. The old gentleman presently appeared at the door, holding in his hand a huge butcher knife about three feet long. The young blood thought he took in the situation at a glance and supposing the old man wanted gore he made a bee line for home. The matter has since been explained. -[Nez Perce News]
