Full Text
GENERAL BURDETT'S ideas of a monument to General Grant, to be erected at Washington by the Grand Army of the Republic, are soldier-like and sensible. The veterans will no doubt be glad of an opportunity to testify in this way their admiration of the Old Commander, and a suitable memorial-the tribute of their own generous remembrance of the dead-can be erected at a cost entirely within their means and without imposing a hardship. The National monument, as General Burdett further suggests, should be built by the General Government.
