GREENSBORO, Nov. 7.- (AP)
The sixth congressional district election involving representative Carl T. Durham, of Chapel Hill, and Worth D. Henderson, of Greensboro, republican nominee, was thrown into a state of confusion in Guilford county today when it was learned that eighth district tickets were distributed to at least eight precincts in this county.
The board of elections, meeting in informal session late today with Henderson and GOP Chairman Z. H. Howerton, decided to delay action in connection with the mixup until returns from the county had been completed.
Distributed in the following precincts: Morehead numbers 2, 3 and 4, Friendship and Jamestown, and Greensboro Nos. 1, 7 and 14.
J. L. Abbott, chairman of the local election board, estimated that 1,000 ballots were affected by the mixup. At Greensboro number 1-White Oak-337 votes had been cast on the 8th district ballot before the error was discovered, Henderson stated, while 100 had been voted at Pomona, Morehead No. 4, and 95 at Morehead No. 3.
Henderson said he would make no statement pending the outcome of the election in counties and precincts not affected by the mixup.
At Raleigh, Raymond Maxwell, chairman of the state board of elections, said the confusion apparently had been cleared up that he had sent a sufficient number of sixth district ballots to Greensboro Monday night to take care of those which rightly belonged in the 8th district.
The names of Rep. W. O. Burgin, incumbent, and GOP Candidate B. C. Brock appeared on the eighth district ballots.
