Tarring of School Ma'am May Become Political Issue.
Lincoln, Kan., Sept. 12.--Threats that he himself may be subjected to a coat of tar 'd feathers have been made against County Prosecutor W. W. McCanles, who is directing the cases against a dozen men and boys charged with complicity in attack upon Miss Mary Chamberlain. Miss Chamberlain was tarred by a mob near Shady Bend, Kansas. Public sentiment in the county is at a high pitch.
Every mail brings the prosecutor letters either commending his work or making dire threats if he does not cease the prosecution of the men accused who come from the best families of the country. The question promises to become a political issue in the county.
