And Used Money to Purchase School Books and Clothes for Younger Brother.

An exclusive article appearing in the columns of The Bulletin yesterday morning under the caption "Child Was Saved" has borne great fruit. Mesdames J. Sadler and Henry Bernstein, two well known ladies who are connected with the Children's Home Society, investigated the conditions of the Coffey family yesterday and found that to be even worse than was stated in the paper. They went to the home of the distressed family which they found only after having to wend their way through mud and other broken plank walks much to their discomfort. They found that the little girl has to go to the river to gather coal from unloaded barges which are often landed there. This coal she took home to her people and sold to neighbors. She had been doing this all winter and by this means had obtained money enough to buy school books for herself and a suit of clothes for her year-old brother. Where do you find an unparalleled

The father had been confined to his home for several months suffering from consumption and unable to work. The mother had but recently purchased food supplies but the clothing of all was decidedly insufficient to stand the chill of winter. These ladies who investigated the conditions of the Coffey family state that all that is possible will be done. A doctor will be sent to the man and clothing to the entire family, for the reason that they are deserving. Also everything will be done to give the girl an education for which she yearns. Here is an opportunity for Cairoites to prove their liberality, for a better and more deserving cause will be hard to find.
