Full Text

A few weeks since we stated that Mr. John C. Dearborn, keeper of the Brick Hotel at Great Falls, had banished ardent spirits from his house. A writer in the Gazette says: "Mr. Dearborn could obtain the situation on no other condition than to keep a strictly Temperance House, and that contrary to the agreement with the owners of the House, he keeps "the Ardent" under the counter concealed, where it can be had when called for."

We derived our information respecting Mr. D's house from a credible source; but if he keeps Rum concealed under the counter we presume our informant was not acquainted with the fact, as he is no lover of the Ardent. If, however, Mr. D. deals out the poison in this clandestine manner he is utterly unworthy the countenance of the friends of temperance.

Mr. John C. Dearborn, keeper of the Brick Hotel at Great Falls, had reportedly banished ardent spirits from his house as a strictly Temperance House per agreement with owners. A Gazette writer alleges he keeps ardent spirits concealed under the counter for sale. The report defends the initial information from a credible source unaware of any violation and condemns clandestine dealing if true.
