GLOBE TRIES NEW PLAN IN PREFERENCE TO USING THE REFORM SCHOOL.
GLOBE. June 4.-Believing that Juvenile offenders can be more readily reformed by placing them under wholesome restraint in a mountain camp than by committing them to territorial reform school, officials of Gila county have established a probation camp in the Pinal mountains near here.
The camp will be opened tomorrow with about a dozen youthful delinquents in charge of an officer. The boys will be allowed to govern themselves to a great extent under the supervision of an officer and will be given work on the roads at a small salary. Those who acquit themselves creditably during the summer will be allowed to return to the city schools next fall. Those who fail will be committed to the reform school.
The plan has the sanction of the district judge and county officials generally and is believed will prove remarkably successful. As far as can be learned such a plan has never before been attempted.
