AT FORT KNOX

Fort Knox. Ky- Private William N. Allen, son of Mr. Elden G. Allen, 2910 Eshcol Ave., Zion, Ill., has been assigned as a trainee in the second cycle of the Universal Military Training Experimental Unit. He arrived on July 21st to become a member of the Army Ground Forces model UMT battalion which brought about nation-wide comment during its first six months.

Prior to enlisting in the Regular Army on July 3rd at Fort Sheridan, Trainee Allen, 18, was a student at Zion-Benton Township High School.

This unit. to which Trainee Allen has been assigned in the 2nd Training Company, Artillery, conducted its initial experiment ending on July 5th to demonstrate to the public how Universal Military Training would operate should Congress approve the necessary legislation. The proposed program, combining civilian and military methods, marks a departure from wartime training ing and places greater emphasis on raising the moral, physical and mental fibre of the young men participating.
