From Mexico.—The intelligence from Vera Cruz, brought by the schr. Carter Braxton whence she sailed on the 17th ult., is rather discouraging to the cause of Federalism. The troops under Gen. Mexia are represented as still occupying a position several leagues from Vera Cruz. The impression was at first that the army under that General would have marched, without a moment's delay, upon Vera Cruz, and carried that place by a coup de main. This was the plan which the posture of circumstances called for, and it was only such a bold and desperate conduct of the expedition, that would have insured its success. The friends of Federalism, then, are exceedingly disappointed at the dilatory proceedings of the army. The true cause of the derangement of the expedition will be traced, we presume, to the treachery and desertion of the Mexican schooner, which recently put into Mobile. On board of this vessel, it would appear, was laden a great part of the ammunition, artillery and heavy ordnance, provided by Mexia for the use of his army. Her disappearance has, of course, deprived him of these indispensable implements of war. Uncertainty respecting the cause of the absence of the vessel, and a hope of her speedy arrival has, probably, kept the Federal forces in a state of suspense and inactivity: and prevented those bold and energetic movements that were confidently anticipated. Thus, it seems, that the treason of a single individual, has brought disaster and blight upon an enterprise the most masterly and intrepid, and the most promising ever conceived by the friends of freedom in Mexico.— New Orleans Bulletin.
