MISS RHUA SLAVENS
On Tuesday evening, June 13, about 50 persons gathered at the Nyah grange hall to hear Miss Rhua Slavens, International Farm Youth Exchange student, tell of her experiences in Belgium and Luxembourg last summer. Miss Slavens spent four months living with rural people in these countries, learning their ways and problems. She took pictures while overseas and showed them at the meeting, explaining them in a very interesting talk. Afterward she asked for questions and there followed a discussion of these countries and France. Such a small gathering, in this reporter's opinion, is disgraceful. Even with such short notice, there should have been more people present. (This editor doubts that the people knew about it, and being at the hall of a fraternal order, unless a statement that the public is welcome, one would hesitate to go. Personally we would liked to have gone).
It is only by knowing our neighbors across the seas and their problems, can future wars be averted. Most of us will not be able to learn first hand and our only way of getting this knowledge is to hear someone who has been behind the scenes and not on a conducted tourist tour.
Sandwiches and coffee were served after the meeting by the Nyah Grange ladies, assisted by several 4-H girls.
