John Adams Charged With Murder in Second Degree -
Italians Were at First Suspected but Were Discharged
Winsted, Ct., July 1.-The police tonight arrested John Adams, a colored laborer, and he will be brought before Justice Seymour tomorrow morning charged with murder in the second degree in causing the death of Clarence Carey, colored, on the night of May 30.
On that night the two men, accompanied by two women, Mrs. Lulu Welndon and Mrs. Abbie Cummings, was going to Carey's home. According to the story told by Adams and the two women they were held up by three Italians while walking along the tracks of the Central New England railroad and during a scuffle three shots were fired, all of which took effect in Carey's body and resulted in his death a short time later.
The police investigated the case and arrested three Italians who at the time were supposed to be implicated in the case. After an examination, however they were released. The police have been working on the case quietly since that time and Adams' arrest tonight resulted
