Full Text

The garbled statement of the debate on Mr. Potter's resolution, on the subject of re-chartering the United States Bank, at the present session of Congress, given in yesterday's Journal, is designed to mislead the people on that question. Nearly all the arguments of Mr. Potter are omitted, while those of Mr. Hazard are drawn out at length and carefully published. In Saturday's paper, we shall give the substance of this debate--and pay some attention to the reckless and unjustifiable remarks of Mr. Hazard. This gentleman, takes every opportunity that offers itself, under his legislative screen, to indulge in the most virulent abuse of every body, or class of men, that are opposed to him in politics, and having nothing at stake individually, he throws his poisonous arrows at random, and levels his bitter invectives alike at the virtuous and the vicious. Insolent by nature, morose in feelings, and vindictive in passion, he disregards the rules of legislation, and outrages the decorum of debate.
