Suffering defeats from their last two opponents, the Clark Panthers will invade Nashville today attempting to get back into the win column against the Fisk Bulldogs.
It will be game number six come tip-off time at 8 p. m. tonight on the Bulldogs home court.
The question that confronts the Panthers now is whether or not they can strike back after losing their last two contests.
Clark won their first three battles over South Carolina State and Lane College here, then hit the road to Tuskegee and won.
The Panthers dropped their fourth game to Miles in Birmingham and only last Friday night sustained defeat number two at the hands of Morehouse.
The Panthers performance did not look like the team that has been scoring 70 points or better per game, nor did they resemble the same group of players that defeated Morehouse twice last season.
Head mentor Leonidas S. Epps and squad will go at the remaining games the hard way. They will have sure trouble tonight against Fisk. The Bulldogs have a reputation for all guests on their home court.
One year ago, Bulldogs Coach H. B. Thompson floored a team that was "hot" throughout the contest, and man-handled Clark with a 88-79 victory.
On the return engagement here in Atlanta, Clark scored their highest number of points of the season hitting the nets for 96 points. The final score was 96-69 Clark.
Against Morehouse here in a losing cause Saturday night, the Bulldogs never got started until the second half. Fisk showed signs of an impressive comeback.
Clark is expecting much trouble from the Bulldogs especially the first five unit of James McAdoo, Alton Washington, William Perkins, Donald Edwards and James Sharp.
Coach Thompson reserves lists William Butler, Kenneth Sloan, Willie Westmoreland, James Giles, Ronald Larry and Marvin Neels.
Perkins was the "man in control" of Fisk comeback in the Morehouse game and may be the key figure against Clark.
The Panthers, on the other hand will retaliate in tonight's showing with probably the same five that opened up the Morehouse game.
Henry "Moon" Clark will operate the Panthers attack with assistance from captain Joe Carter and Charlie Smith, centers; Robert Watkins and Jerome Jenkins, guards; Walter Simpson, John Bryant and Charles Benford forwards. The reserves include Carl Seldon, John Nunnally, Aaron Woodall, Theordis Norton, Sam Brown and Lowell Dickerson.
Clark will return and play Morris Brown Saturday night.
