A NEW SONG.

Ye lovers of whiskey, ye friends of the people,
Ye dumb legislative declaimers so able,
Whole state confounds, and convinces the nation.
Producing such vivid and clear demonstration;
Ye highly esteemed lawmakers attend
To the leal advice of a counsel and friend-
I'll tell you the law that must govern the nation,
In respect to our new doctrine, styled "oppugnation,"
When the noble Democrats made opposition,
To the laws of the Union, 'twas only sedition;
'Twas lawful and right in us to declare,
Against federal measures, and more, open war-
It was just and praiseworthy in us to defame,
Ev'ry great and pre-eminent federal name;
But now we contend, in the new shoot, with reason,
That aid and respect and reviling is treason,"
And that death should accompany all "oppugnation,"
TO the present INFALLIBLE ADMINISTRATION.
