FROM AFRICA
Ralph Newsom arrived home Saturday, and is visiting his mother, Mrs. Annie Newsom of the west side. He was in Africa working for the government the past 14 months.
For six months he was employed with the Firestone company of Liberia, and then was transferred to the Pan-American Airways, and was employed along the west coast in the construction of airport bases, hangars, etc. He was in Cairo when Rommel bombed the city, and a bomb exploded near enough him, to shake up the house where he was staying.
He enjoyed good health the entire time he was away, but was laid up for a time, when he had a growth removed from his foot. He made the trip over to Africa by ship, but returned by plane. He left Gold Coast and landed in Natal, Brazil, and then came up the coast to Miami, Fla. From there he came by train, coming by way of New York City.
Newsom plans to be here until called into the service, which will probably be within a few weeks.
