Battleship And Liner Collide

LOS ANGELES, March 17.—The steamship Ruth Alexander proceeded south to San Diego today with a hole in her bow above the water line after a collision last night off San Pedro breakwater with the battleship Colorado.

Although no official report of the accident was made public, it was said that the crash was caused when the Colorado inbound from target practice and the Ruth Alexander putting out to sea, misunderstood the signals of the other.

No one was injured and the ships continued their run after a cursory inspection had been made. A 10 foot hole was stove in the bow of the battleship.

WASHINGTON, March 17.—A court of inquiry was ordered today to investigate the ramming last night off San Pedro, of the battleship Colorado by the steamship Ruth Alexander.

The steamer apparently was undamaged and proceeded but the Colorado had a cut on the starboard side above the water line.
