A German raider swooped down on the American freight steamer Mongolia, about 1,000 miles east of Sandy Hook, last Tuesday. Sending wireless messages to a companion, somewhere over the horizon, the raider maneuvered around the American freighter in a half-mile circle. Capt. Emery Rice, and his crew of 141, seventy-two of whom are Americans, who arrived safely at an Atlantic port today, watched the stranger as she crept towards them. They were greatly relieved when after a couple of hours she steamed away.
