We are assured by Persons lately from the Country, that the Countenances of the Farmers are much fallen, owing to the increase of their Taxes, for the Purpose of calling in and sinking their Paper Bills.

They have in the several Counties of Massachusetts Bay, presented Petitions to their Assembly, craving to be heard to the Method of redeeming them, and among other Complaints exhibited in their Petitions they declare, "that the said Act is cruel and oppressive, a Violation of Public Faith, and contrary to the Promise made on the Face of the Bill.." The Assembly have Published an Address, in which they endeavour to coax hard and persuade them to a Compliance with the Measure. It exhibits in the most glaring Light their perplexed Situation.
