New Road From Nogales To River Will Strike Bridge Between Beyerle Store And City Owned Houses; Work Be Done By Force Account
A surveying crew began work Wednesday at the river bridge, 7 miles northeast of Nogales, surveying an approach to the bridge for the new $50,000 Nogales-River highway.
The road, on which construction work is to begin within the next three weeks, will strike the bridge between the Beyerle store and the two city owned houses located near the bridge.
The original survey for the road calls for a new bridge east of the pumping plant but no appropriation has been made for the bridge and it will probably be about four years before the structure is erected.
Work on the Nogales-River highway will be done by force account and it will be one of the few government force account jobs. Most jobs, handled by the government, are by contract. Force account on the new highway means 50 percent more money left in Santa Cruz county than would be the case if the highway were erected by the contract system.
