PRESIDENT CALLES
CLASSIFIES PROVEN
PETROLEUM FIELDS

MEXICO CITY, Dec. 23 (Special to The Dispatch).—A circle with a radius of 15 kilometers centered on a producing well shall be considered a proven petroleum land, under a decree just issued by President Calles. The classification of the territory becomes effective from the date the well is officially cemented in.

However, if three wells are drilled within 2.5 kilometers of a producing well which has given the classification to the territory and do not show indications of petroleum, the territory will again be classified as "not known as petroliferous."

Revision of classifications is to be made each month, but will be available to the public at all times.

In another decree, the president has definitely established the Mexican national petroleum reserve. This is to comprise all the free lands in a strip 50 kilometers wide along the border from the Pacific coast to the Gulf of Mexico, and in addition, the free lands which exist in the former central district at Tamaulipas, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, Durango, San Luis Potosi, Guerrero, Puebla, Vera Cruz, Chiapas and Oaxaca.
