Extract of a letter from Liverpool, April 7.

At Lincoln nine unhappy men were executed pursuant to their sentence. They all acknowledged themselves guilty, and appeared perfectly resigned to their fate. After prayers, they ascended a pair of steps, and from thence got upon a kind of stage, which went from one post of the gallows to the other; one end rested upon a ledge, and the other was suspended by a rope from the beam. The ropes being put about their necks, and a cap drawn over the face of each criminal, Harrison, to the surprise of all present, turned his cap up again, & leaning up against one of the posts, begged in an audible voice, that the spectators would indulge him, by giving ear to a few words he wished to say. Tho' near 10,000 people were present, an awful silence took place, and the poor criminal proceeded :-- "I am come of a respectable family, and was brought up by honest parents with the greatest care and tenderness :--it therefore gives me much uneasiness to think that some people may so far forget themselves, as to reflect on them for my misconduct : God grant that it may not be so. Let me caution young men to shun the company of bad women; bad women brought on drunkenness ! drunkenness, idleness !--idleness, poverty ! poverty, dishonesty !--and for which latter, I must now suffer a shameful, violent and disgraceful death." He said "We are not objects of mirth ;" and concluded with observing, That as his death might prove a warning to some of his fellow-creatures, he died happy, and not in vain.
