Relics of the Pilgrim Fathers.—Colonel Schouler, the editor of the Boston Atlas and Bee, visited Plymouth Rock on the 22d of December, the anniversary of the landing of the Pilgrims. He saw there, in Pilgrim Hall, the barrel of the gun with which the celebrated Indian Chief, King Philip, was shot. There is the sword, the old iron pot, and the tin platters of Miles Standish. There is a model of the Mayflower. There is a copy of Elliot's Indian Bible. There are portraits of the Winslows, and the large picture by Sargent of "The Landing of the Pilgrims," and there is a smaller one, and one which, to us, is more true to history and more true to art, though it covers less canvas, of the landing of the Pilgrims from the small boat, upon the rock. In an ante-room, off from the main hall, in a glass case, is the original charter of the Plymouth Colony, granted by Oliver Cromwell. The corner of the parchment on which the name of the "Protector" was inscribed had been torn off, doubtless by some unprincipled collector of autographs. He will never dare show it, for then the thief would be discovered. The torn corner has been pieced out by a paper substitute, on which is written, in imitation of the original, the name of Cromwell. In front of the hall the upper part of the Rock is placed, surrounded and guarded by an iron railing. Between the railing on iron plates are the names of the Pilgrims whose feet had hallowed and immortalized the inanimate ground inclosed within.
