Women's Home and Foreign Mission Society Convention Held Thursday at Svea
The annual convention of the Women's Home and Foreign Mission Society of the Willmar District was held last Thursday at Svea and was attended by a large gathering of women from the churches of the district.
The opening session was at ten o'clock in the morning when a brief prayer meeting was held led by Mrs. A. F. Seastrand. This was followed by a business session. Mrs. Ernest Swenson of Svea welcomed the delegates and visitors to Svea. Encouraging reports were given by representatives of the several local societies within the district.
Officers for the coming year were elected as follows:
President, Mrs. A. F. Seastrand of Beckville.
Vice President, Mrs. C. G. Olson of Tripolis.
Secretary, Mrs. Victor Holm of New London.
Treasurer, Mrs. O. W. Kroona of Kandiyohi.
An auditing committee was elected composed of Miriam Rast and Mrs. Elmer Johnson.
Delegates to the Synod were elected as follows: Mrs. Seastrand, Mrs. A. J. Berghult, Mrs. Albert Peterson, Mrs. Victor Holm, Mrs. E. Anderson and Mrs. A. H. Brown. Conference delegates were elected; Mrs. Seastrand, Miss Amy Fridlund, Mrs. F. E. Croonquist, Mrs. Elmer Johnson, the Misses May Olson and Ethel Larson. Alternates were Mrs. C. G. Olson, Mrs. Hedeen, Mrs. Redig, Miss Lillian Rundquist, Mrs. L. J. F. Schmidt and Miss Emma Peterson.
The afternoon session opened at 2 o'clock. Rev. Fred Wyman, the Synod's field secretary, spoke on the mission work in Africa. This was a very interesting talk as well as a fervent appeal for support of the mission work.
In the evening the session was held at 7:30 o'clock. Numbers were given by representatives of local societies, Rev. Wyman again spoke very interestingly on the field in China. He used a large map of this country which added interest.
Offerings were taken both in the afternoon and evening for mission.
The ladies of the Svea church served dinner and supper, the proceeds of which went to the China and African missions.
