Morning Star and Catholic Messenger.
NEW ORLEANS, SUNDAY, AUGUST 20, 1871.
TRUE TO IRELAND.
Upon the briny ocean,
Or on the foreign strand,
With faithful, fond devotion,
We love our native land;
And boldly we'll endeavor
To raise her up anew;
With faith that falters never,
To Ireland we'll be true.
True to the cause of Ireland,
True to the dear old land,
At home among the hills and streams,
Or on the foreign strand
Whate'er our occupations,
Where'er our homes may be,
Be these our aspirations,
To make dear Ireland free;
In purpose firm, united
To persevere and do,
Till Ireland's wrongs are righted,
To Ireland still be true.
True to the cause of Ireland
True to the dear old land
At home among the hills and streams,
Or on the foreign strand.
In chapel, church or meeting,
In hut or palace grand,
We'll pray to God, entreating
His blessings on our land,
Till in her olden station
She rises up anew,
An independent nation
Of freemen brave and true.
True to the cause of Ireland,
True to the dear old land
At home among the hills and streams,
Or on the foreign strand.
Anon.
