A full account of the interesting ceremony, yesterday, at Oxford, is given in our preceding columns. It is matter of regret to all impartial lovers of decorum and literature, that a great deal of party spirit shewed itself in the reception of the different persons presented for Degrees. A rude expression of disapprobation was even attempted against the Chancellor, Lord Grenville, but it was feeble and confined, and soon overpowered by loud and general acclamations of applause. A similar attempt followed the nomination of Mr. Tierney, but with no better success. Mr. Sheridan it seems had declined, in a letter to Lord Grenville, the proposed honour of Doctor's Degree, and did not arrive until the ceremony was over. The American Ambassadour was also absent, being prevented.
Prevented from attending by indisposition. As the several admissions, that of the Marquis of Buckingham was rendered peculiarly interesting by the Chancellor, who manifested a strong sensibility on the occasion of addressing his elder brother, whom he called "carissime frater," which produced a very general and strong sensation.

Event Details
At the Oxford ceremony for conferring degrees, party spirit led to rude expressions of disapprobation against Lord Grenville and Mr. Tierney, but these were feeble and overpowered by general acclamations. Mr. Sheridan declined the honor in a letter and arrived after the event. The Marquis of Buckingham's admission was notable due to the Chancellor's emotional address calling him 'carissime frater'.
