Tips to County Warrant Speculators Will Also Be Inquired Into

Permanent organization of the Logan County Taxpayers' league, the primary purpose of which is to investigate and pursue raiding of county funds and illegal co-operation of county officers and speculators in county paper, was effected at the court house Saturday afternoon. The first work of the league will be to go into the matter of depleted funds, it being a matter of common assertion that warrants have been issued in large numbers against depleted funds, of which action speculators had information, and that after all the warrants against these funds were bought up at 50 cents on the dollar the funds have been replenished from others and the speculators paid dollar for dollar.

W. H. Mathews, the Mulhall attorney, was elected president of the league. The vice presidents are Wayne Jenkins, Wm. Bross, and Charles Lee, county assessor, J. C. Port is secretary and T. H. Loan, treasurer.

The following executive committee was elected: W. H. Mathews, Ton Jernigan, Jn. Gooch, Mrs. Anna B. Dodson, Sam Griffin. The committee on constitution and by laws is composed of W. H. Mathews, Wayne Jenkins, T. H. Loan. A draft of the constitution and by laws was adopted.

The first public appearance of the new organization in tax affairs will be at the meeting of the county excise board next Saturday. The following were appointed for that important purpose: W. M. Spurlock, W. H. Mathews, Miles Allen, J. D. Burke, Wayne Jenkins.

The membership of the organization covers the county and it is expected that a large roll will be secured soon.

It was decided that the membership fee of fifty cents per annum be assessed.
