Full Text

A boat, in ascending the Cumberland, has recently been attacked by the Cherokee Indians, and had one man killed, and several wounded, in consequence of which, and some other threatening circumstances, great alarm is said to prevail on our frontier.

In the Reporter, a paper published at Lexington, Ky. an attempt is made to impute this murder to the machinations of the British. This is absurd. The English have great influence over the northern Indians, and have often excited them to deeds of barbarity: but every one who knows anything of Indian affairs, knows that the southern Indians are not at all under the control of the British. They have long been exclusively under the influence of the Spaniards. --Wash. Fed.
