ALEXANDRIA:
FRIDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 10, 1834.

MARYLAND ELECTIONS.

The returns from Maryland show, thus far, a great gain for the Whigs. We give below all the information we have received by the last mails:

Prince George's.—Messrs. Gantt, Duvall, Worthington, and Key, (four Whigs) elected. Last year there were two Whigs and two Jackson men.

Charles County.—Messrs. Dulany, Merrick, Carpenter, and Hughes, (four Whigs) elected by a majority of two hundred and thirty-one votes.

St. Mary's.—Four Whigs elected.

Frederick.—In Frederick county, which last year sent four Jackson delegates, by a majority of 450 votes, four Whigs have been elected by a majority nearly as large. Here was thought to be Mr. Taney's strong hold; it was his former residence, and where he was lately escorted, and feasted, where he made speeches, and was toasted, with an eclat which flattered the party with victory. But what a falling off!

Washington.—Four Whigs elected; last year four Jackson-men by a large majority. The triumph in this county is as unexpected and gratifying as that in Frederick.

Montgomery.—The whole Whig ticket has prevailed by a handsome majority; the same as last year.

Harford.—Three Jackson, one Whig; the same as last year.

Baltimore County.—Four Jackson.

Anne Arundel.—Four Whigs; last year four Jackson.

Kent.—Four Whigs; last year two and two.

Cecil.—Four Jackson, by a small majority: last year the same without opposition.

The returns, therefore, from the counties heard from, give a result of 37 Whigs and 11 Jackson-men. In the same counties last year the aggregate of Delegates stood: 18 Whigs, 30 Jackson-men.

N. B. Since preparing the above, the following additional returns have been received.

Talbot.—Four Whigs elected—last year two Whigs, two Jackson.

Caroline.—Four Whigs elected—last year three Whigs, one Jackson.

Somerset.—Three Whigs elected—last year two Whigs, two Jackson.

Worchester.—Four Whigs elected—last year four Jackson.

Dorchester.—Four Whigs elected.

In all 52 Whigs—12 Jackson men.

The Baltimore Patriot says:

"We have not time now to note the various changes in the State, but can positively assure our friends at home and abroad, that the returns show there has been a great revolution in public sentiment in favor of the Whig cause in every County in the State. The Jackson party has been beaten at all points—in fact, completely "routed, horse, foot and dragoon."—Last year the Jackson party had FORTY SEVEN members in the House of Delegates—this year they will hardly number FIFTEEN! It will be borne in mind also, that the whole Senate, fifteen members, are staunch Whigs."
