ATE THEIR OWN TURKEYS.
Butchers and Marketmen's Association Make Things Pleasant.
Since January 1, 1895, the membership of the Butchers and Marketmen's Association has been increased to the extent of 65, which the executive committee thought justified them in preparing and tendering to this "new blood" a reception and banquet, which they did. And the same took place in the banquet hall of Gelb & Norton last evening.
There was an attendance of 125. A turkey supper was served and it was quite evident that the turkeys had been selected by an expert. The company sat down to supper at 8:30 o'clock, and after prayer by the Rev. T. H. Cocroft, an honorary member of the association, the work of devastation began.
President H. W. Clarke occupied the position of honor and on either side of him sat the speakers of the evening. Mr. Clarke spoke on behalf of the new members; Treasurer Edwin F. Tetlow had a word of encouragement for the old members; the Rev. Mr. Cocroft a pleasant word for all; and Alderman H. E. Harris, an ex-butcher and market man, told how many times a petition to lay out a street had to pass from one body to another before a street could be built. The Hon. S. S. Rich looked out for the interests of East Providence.
Music for the occasion was furnished by Clarence Hamilton and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Foster. The executive committee who had charge of the affair were: A. C. Barker, H. A. Sayles, S. Tourtellott, H. S. Webster and W. P. Hudson.
