VERMONT.

At the last session of our legislature a law passed the assembly subjecting the ministers of religion to taxation like other citizens; and another for new organizing the militia: Both these acts were referred by the council to the next session of the legislature. A turnpike road from Rutland to Pittsfield was granted: most of the other petitions for turnpikes failed.--A tax of one cent and a half on the dollar was voted to defray the expenses of government. It was thought necessary to increase the tax, as there was not money enough in the treasury to pay the debentures of the members of the legislature; a deficiency of about 5000 dollars having been occasioned by the expense of the extra session at Windsor, in February last.--[Vermont pap.
