Whilst almost every other part of the Union, during the present year, has been scourged with the visitations of either, fire, flood, or pestilence, Arkansas has been singularly exempted from all. Providence has spared this State, probably, far above its deserts, and emotions of gratitude towards our great benefactor should be awakened in the heart of every citizen.
We are not only blessed by the absence of terrific visitations, but it seems that every enterprise engaged in by our citizens, has prospered beyond expectation. Our fields smile with abundance and the crop of gold, harvested this year, will lay the foundation of future permanent prosperity
We do not wish it to be understood that the cholera, and even the small-pox, have not been introduced into our State. For such is the fact; but both of those awful diseases have been introduced only on the highways, yet they have been confined to travellers, and neither has appeared in the forms of an epidemic.
Our city is "distressingly healthy," as the doctors would say, at present, as it has been all time. It is free of all kinds of disease—epidemic, contagious—local.
Much praise is due our Corporate authorities for the measures they have adopted for, and the attention they have paid to, the health of the City.
