FROM CASTINE.

A gentleman who left Castine on Thursday last, has arrived in town. He states, that the news of peace was not relished by the English officers there. A fleet from Halifax, under a convoy of a brig, arrived three days previous, and brought late papers, the contents of which he did not learn, but believes they contained nothing very particular. The Maidstone and Pelter were the only cruisers at Castine. The latter ready to sail with a fleet for St. Johns.

On the 11th inst a schr. from St. Johns for Castine, laden with W.I. produce, anchored off Camden—during the night. she was partly frozen in by the ice—in consequence, several boats came off next morning from the shore, cut her out, and carried her into port, a prize. Three boats were sent from the Maidstone frigate, lying at Castine, to endeavour to retake her, before she got into the harbor; but not succeeding, they returned. A fleet from Bermuda, was daily looked for at Castine—Gazette.
