Bishop Brown Makes Mid-Year Appointments

CHARLOTTE, N. C., Feb. 10—Bishop Wallace E. Brown, resident bishop of the Chattanooga area of the Methodist Episcopal church, following a series of promotional meetings throughout North Carolina and East Tennessee, has made several appointments that served to attract unusual attention in Methodism.

At the Human Point, N. C., promotional meeting, the bishop took into consideration several situations in this state, and upon his return to his Chattanooga office he announced the following appointments: Rev. J. C. Rush who was serving as district superintendent over the Laurinburg district was moved to the pastorate of Epworth Chapel, Gastonia, and Rev. C. W. Perry was transferred from his Charlotte pastorate to the Laurinburg district. Rev. R. B. McRae, successful pastor of the church at Hamlet for nine years, succeeds Rev. Perry at the Charlotte church.

Succeeding Rev. McRae at the Hamlet church is Rev. W. C. Scarborough, who has enjoyed a successful pastorate at Gastonia, where he established an excellent record as a minister. Rev. Perry has served leading churches in many cities throughout the state of North Carolina, and at one time served on the faculty of Clark university, Atlanta, Ga.

General comment throughout the North Carolina conference indicates high praise for the prompt action of Bishop Brown in making these mid-year appointments. It is considered that the changes will go far toward remedying a very unsatisfactory situation that might have seriously impeded the progress of the connection. Negro conferences throughout the Chattanooga area join the white conference in requesting the retention of Bishop Brown as resident bishop, following the approaching conference in Kansas City, Mo.
