HOLDUP Turns Out TO BE GAMBLING ROW

The denouement of a thrilling "hold up" story came this afternoon when three men were arraigned in police court on a gambling charge, and their trial set for tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock, each giving bond of $25. One of the participants in the "holdup," who proved himself so fleet of foot that it would take a motorcycle to catch him is yet in hiding, and the general idea is that he has departed for parts unknown. If developments came thick and fast this morning after the early morning men-around-town had been treated to the sight of a spectacular footrace, and had heard the fast spreading report of a holdup which took place at 7 o'clock. It was not until one of the participants was arrested, his person much the worse for a hand to hand fight, that the true story came out, and it developed that the trouble had been occasioned, not by a holdup, but by a game of cards which terminated in a wild row over the spoils. The three arrests followed, and the excitement has died down, the police being of the opinion that the bonds will be forfeited. An attorney for one of the participants, who suffered a severe beating, is said to be considering the filing of a charge of assault and battery against one of the other gamblers, but no definite step has been taken as yet.
