Crop Growth Advanced By High Temperature

The first half of the week ending May 5, was generally warm and clear and favorable to crop growth with the latter part cool with scattered showers so the crop report issued by the state division of publicity and state extension service. For three successive days at weather bureau stations reported a high temperature exceeding 80 degrees. The warm days advanced crops and all vegetation made good growth. Seeding generally is completed with the exception of flax and corn which is being finished. In general crops on summer fallow and fall plowed land are in much better shape than crops planted on spring plowed soil. A small amount of soil blowing was reported. Farmers are irrigating meadows. Sugar beets, in good condition are being irrigated and thinned and are making satisfactory growth. Corn is up on some farms in southeastern sections. Early sown spring wheat generally is in excellent condition with all late sown small grain in need of rain. Range conditions have improved during the past week and are normal for the season but there is some complaint that reservoirs are not filled.
