They Commenced the Manufacture of Ware Yesterday.
The wheels were put in motion in the Canton Stoneware Company's works on Monday morning, and thus was added another promising industry to Canton's manufacturing interests.
The works are located on the Belden farm, about a mile southeast of the city limits. The main building is a two-story frame 50x200 feet. The clay and boiler rooms are one-story and 30x50 feet. The two kilns for burning the ware are built on the latest and most approved principles, and have a capacity for burning 16,000 gallons of ware a week.
The works when run to their full capacity will give employment to twenty men, besides those who dig the clay and coal and deliver it at the works. Fifteen men are at work at present and are turning out a variety of crockery, jars, pots and jars for the market to be ready for delivery in ten days.
Superintendent Nichols reports everything in first class condition and prospects for a big trade first class, having taken orders for 1,500 gallons between the hours of nine and ten this morning.
