Maurice L. Briggs, Kodiak's postmaster, returned home Saturday after spending several weeks in the states. While outside he visited his home-town, Greenfield, Iowa, after an absence of 50 years.
While in Greenfield he attended the 50th anniversary of the Clara Chapel church, in the old neighborhood in which he spent his boyhood. He met a number of his old friends there. During his stay there he was the guest of Walter Piper in Richland townsite. He and the Piper boys formerly lived on neighboring farms.
To arrive for the 50th anniversary of the church was an Odyssey for Briggs. He flew from Kodiak to Seattle and rode a bus from Seattle to Omaha. He went by train from Omaha to Creston and took a taxi from there to Greenfield arriving in time for the service.
The church Briggs attended was the one in which his mother and father had their membership.
Briggs also visited Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Briggs, his son and daughter-in-law, and grandchildren in California.
