Female Fidelity:
In a late debate in the British Parliament, respecting the disturbances in Ireland, a remarkable instance of resolution and fidelity in a woman of the county of Tipperary, where these disturbances prevail to a great degree, is thus related. "A Magistrate, who had been active in his endeavours to suppress these disturbances, was shot near his own house in the middle of the day.—A number of persons were apprehended, but such was their fidelity to each other, that although a reward of 13,000l Sterl. was offered for the discovery of the murderers, none could be prevailed upon to discover the actual perpetrators!
At length, one of them was apprehended, tried and condemned to be hanged. He was offered both his life and a great reward, if he would discover his accomplices, and he would have made a confession, but for his wife, who went on her knees to him in prison, and implored him to suffer death rather than betray his friends. He obeyed her injunction and was executed."
