AMBUSCADES FOR TROOPS.
Owing to Rumors of Intention of Boers to Destroy a Railroad Bridge Police Have Been Stationed at Colenzo.
Pietermaritzburg, Natal, South Africa, Aug. 23.-In connection with the rumor that there are many Boers who are British subjects and who outwardly sympathize with the British while in reality they are secret agents of President Kruger of the Transvaal republic, the premier of Natal declared that it was the intention of the British government to take steps to detect and punish any British subjects co-operating with the enemies of the queen.
It is alleged that much secret information has been conveyed to President Kruger and that even ambuscades have been prepared for the British troops in the event of war by these secret agents.
A force of police has been ordered to Colenzo, owing to rumors of the intentions of the Boers to destroy the railroad bridge at that place.
