All have this day a solemn duty to perform. It is our bounden duty in the present alarming crisis of our national affairs, not to withhold our suffrages in the pending elections, nor to abuse our inestimable privileges by bestowing our votes on unworthy characters. Every thing dear to us as men and as citizens of a free and independent country, commands us to beware into whose hands we commit the sacred and arduous trust of reconciling, protecting and promoting the various and complicated interests of this great agricultural, commercial and manufacturing nation.

It is impossible not to foresee what questions will demand the deliberation of Congress for the two succeeding years; but we know, from the state of the world and our own perilous situation, that they will involve matters of the highest moment, and will require all the wisdom, skill and experience of our best statesmen. Let all who are solicitous for the honour of the State, and for the safety and prosperity of their country, unite their efforts in effecting, by all fair and honourable means, the re-election of their present faithful Representatives, who have served them for the two last years with such distinguished ability and zeal. Let not the concerns of business prevent any one from dedicating one day to the cause of his country. Let every disciple of Washington be early and constant in his attendance at the polls, and firm and active in the discharge of his duty. Inattention and indolence can alone produce defeat. Industry and union will ensure success.
