Full Text

We regret our inability to publish more than a compendium of the interesting proceedings of Congress. The "Intelligencer," of Friday last, observes, "the Debate yet continues in the House of Representatives on the general question respecting the South-American provinces, and grows even more animated as it proceeds. The question of a war with Spain is almost as much debated as the question actually before the House, such is the latitude of the discussion." We are happy to learn, however, that there is at present, little reason to apprehend an immediate infraction of our national peace. The justice of a war with Spain appears to be generally allowed at Washington, but it is believed that questions of expediency will withhold Congress from precipitately endangering the peace and prosperity of the country.
