HURRY AND WORRY WILL SHORTEN YOUR LIFE

You doubtless want to be happy and live a useful healthy life. If you follow the plan pursued by a large number of our population, you will utterly fail in obtaining such results.

Two of our worst enemies are hurry and worry. We have learned that those two vicious twins, when they become our constant companions, generally succeed in destroying health and happiness and precipitate us into untimely graves.

It has been learned that the hurry and worry diseases kill more people than accidents or cancer.

There is an article on the dire results of hurry and worry written by Doctor Albert P. Seltzer and published in a magazine that is put out by the American Medical Association. He speaks of coronary thrombosis as a typical hurry-worry disease. If the victims did not die from the attack, they were made invalids by it, always living under the shadows of death. Coronary thrombosis is a heart condition in which a blood clot forms in the arteries that supply the muscles of the heart. The muscles that supply that area of the heart die because the blood is cut off.

Dr. Seltzer says, "It has been established that hurry and worry increase the work of the heart and put strain on the vessels supplying the heart." Hurry and worry cause so much strain on the body that high blood pressure and arteriosclerosis are often brought on by this cause.

Angina pectoris which comes on with an agonizing pain in the chest is often brought on by anger, worry, irritation and disturbing emotions. They cause spasm of the circulation of the chest which is for the time being deprived of blood. This causes the pain because the blood supply to the heart is temporarily interfered with.

Circulatory diseases are a leading cause of death in the United States. To hear that a busy man or woman has suddenly been stricken by death has ceased to cause surprise. It is not uncommon for a very busy, useful person who seems to die without a moment's notice or warning.

As a rule, if you go back into that person's history, you will find that for a long time he has been living on a tension. He had "too many irons in the fire." He did not give himself needed rest or relaxation. Then, too, you will generally find that his health habits were bad. If he did not drink alcohol, he poisoned himself with tobacco and drank too much coffee and bottled drinks.

Hurry and worry cause many digestive diseases. It is the chief cause of gastric ulcers. Most people eat too hurriedly with no thought of the nutritive or laxative qualities of the food. Thus malnutrition and constipation bring on much sickness and distress.

Learn to live sanely and so prolong your life in comfort.
